1st Friday Pickup & Yard Debris

Are you getting rid of an old desk, cardboard or small furniture items that are too large to dispose of in your trash receptacle? If so, The Chatham County Public Works Department collects bulky trash items (no hazardous material or food items) on the first Friday of every month.

Before you drag your heavy items to the curb, make sure you review the list below of items that Chatham County does and does not collect:

  • Fencing - Must be cut down to 4' sections

  • Packing peanuts
  • Paper under shingles
  • Plastic cups
  • Plastic toys
  • Plastic recyclable items
  • Pots & Pans
  • Shoes
  • Small amounts of construction debris
  • Styrofoam
  • Toilets, sinks & urinals
  • VCR tapes
  • Water heaters under 50lbs, if over 50lbs the boom truck will be needed
  • Basketball hoops
  • Chemicals
  • Compact fluorescent (Tube/Pig tail)
  • Concrete
  • Cooking oil
